Review of Do I Know You by CJ Vermote

****  Review Time  ****

Do I Know You by CJ Vermote

~  Synopsis  ~

Sara lives in Washington State and as a young woman knows the meaning of tragedy. With an inheritance most of us can only dream of, she takes a vacation and finds herself face to face with Rob, a childhood boyfriend.
What appears to be a chance meeting with Rob is anything but that. Though Sara has dreams and intuitions she should be listening to, she ignores them and allows the fast paced romance with Rob, a man she should not trust, lead to marriage. Sara loves her new life until tragedy strikes, leaving her to fight for her life…alone.

~  Review  ~

Sara has had a rough go at it, so she decides that a break from the daily hustle and bustle is in order. She sets off for a beautiful coastal town in the Pacific Northwest for a few weeks of rest and relaxation. While walking on the beach she meets a sweet elderly couple that take her under their wing as the loving grand daughter they never had. In fact, Sue and Jim ended up becoming a special part of her life.
Also while there, she meets the young and incredibly handsome Rob. It turns out that they share a connection for long ago. They were once childhood sweethearts many, many years ago. While they start to reconnect, they fall into a whirlwind romance. Sara is swept off her feet by Rob's charm. Everything he says and does just sets her heart aflutter. In fact, she falls so hard and fast for him that she agrees to marry him after just a few weeks of dating. But can a love that shoots off so fast be ever lasting?
Sara believes she's met her mate in Rob, but not long after their swift nuptials, things start to go awry. Sara is falling ill, and her new husband is acting a bit out of the ordinary. She's having nightmares that lead to suspicions. Maybe she shouldn't have rushed into a hasty marriage with a man she really knows very little about, especially since she's about to inherit millions. Will she figure out what's going on before it's too late, or will her rash decisions cost her very own life?
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the secondary characters. I want Sue and Jim to take me in as their grand daughter as well! I loved her loyal friends Brandon and Linda. Everyone should have friends as adoring and devoted as them. The plot flowed well. You really sat in pins and needles waiting to see what would happen. Rob is the ultimate villain. You fall for him right along with Sara until you really see what he's capable of. The only thing that I think would have made it better was if the ending were a little more fleshed out. I wanted to know more about what happens with the law firm that Rob works for and how everyone handled the double life he was leading. I think that would have made the story perfect. It was just a bit too abrupt for my tastes. However, I did enjoy the epilogue. It's nice to see what has transpired with some of the characters later on down the line. I definitely look forward to reading more stories by CJ Vermote!

Review of Phiobe by Lizzy Ford

****  Review Time  ****

Phoibe (Omega Beginnings Miniseries Book 3)
By Lizzy Ford

~ Synopsis ~

With a speech impediment and learning disability, the frail six-year-old Crown Princess of Greece is constantly being told she’ll never live up to the woman her mother was. She’s the only descendent of the sacred Bloodline, the royal family touched by the Greek Gods ten thousand years before, and protected by international law.

But Phoibe doesn’t care about any of that. She wants to be loved by someone, and that someone is a mysterious shadow named Lantos who talks to her when no one else will.

Before leaving, the gargoyle Mismatch made her promise never to speak aloud again, or she’ll seal her fate, and the family curse will claim her. She obeys him – and faces the wrath of cruel caretakers sworn to ensure the curse comes to pass.

When Mismatch doesn’t return to save her, young Phoibe must make her first grown-up decision: accept the curse or trust the shadowy creature who tries to help her.

~Review ~

This is the 3rd book in Lizzy Ford's OMEGA Beginnings Miniseries. Alessandra is the first book, and Mismatch is the second. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of them.

This book focuses on a sweet little girl that's facing some really big issues. Phoibe is being groomed  her for her role as the Crown Princess of Greece. She longs to become as incredible as the woman her mother was, but because of her speech impediment, the High Priestess has been mistreating an abusing her. She has found a comfort in a ghostly creature name Lantos. He is her only true friend until Mismatch shows up. He makes a promise to return for her and bring her to safety. He also bring a warning: Do not speak until he returns for her, or she something terrible will come to pass. But trouble abounds, and something must be done. When Mismatch doesn't come back as promised, she's faced with a life altering decision. Does she speak and seal her fate as the others before her have done, or will she put her trust in her shadow friend Lantos?

Each book in this series bring more action than the last. The characters really pull at your heart strings. I can't wait to see what happens in book 4 of this miniseries!

Review of Sicarii by A.J. Bennett & Julia Crane

**  Review Time  **

The Sicarii: Hired Gun Serial (1-4)
By Julia Crane and A.J. Bennett

**  Synopsis  **

Tall, dark, and sexy as hell, Thorne Hollow knows the power he holds over the opposite sex and how to use it. Cast out by the gods thousands of years ago, he roams the earth working as an assassin for The Sicarii, a secret society who protects humans from all of the things that go bump in the night.

One night stands are his way of life ... until he meets a mysterious woman whose intriguing power compels him to uncover more about her and the strange magic she wields.

Previously Hired Gun Serial. Complete novel.
*Mature adults due to language and sexual nature*

**  Review  **

The Sicarii is a compilation of the first 4 serials in the Hired Gun series. Even though this is a collection of shorter stories combined, it reads like one fluid book. I have read and enjoyed other books by the same authors and loved them all. This is no exception. I love how the book combines Greek and Norse mythology in modern day times. This is something I've never read before, and it's a refreshing twist.

Thorne Hollow is a stone cold killer for hire. It's his job, and he's good at it. He takes pleasure in ending the existence of the lowest of the low. On his down time he goes through women like Paula Dean goes through butter. He never lets a woman stay the night. Once he's gotten his fill, he shoves them out the door, with or without their clothes. It all changes the night that 'SHE' walks into his favorite bar. There's something about her that he can't quite put his finger on. She intrigues him like no other. For the first time, he finally lets someone spend the night. But when he wakes up in the morning to a major surprise, he can't believe his eyes. He doesn't know what to do. He's tempted to end her life but tosses her out instead. Who is this beautiful creature that has him so bewitched? While he's digging up dirt on her, he is tasked with the ultimate job, and the fate of the world as we know it relies his ability to complete it.  He also learns that this woman is tied to his assignment. Will he be able to fulfill his mission, or will this odd woman throw a wrench in his plans and change the outcome?

Thorne is a complex character. I didn't fall in love with him right off the bat. He kind of grew on me like moss grows on a tree. You know it's not the best for the tree, but it looks pretty and helps you find a true north. His 'better than you' attitude and womanizing ways make him less than desirable, but you kind of feel sorry for him when you learn what has hardened his heart. I enjoyed the supporting characters. Nike was such a hoot. I have a real soft spot for Benny, and I look forward to reading more of his story in the future. I can't wait to see what else AJ Bennett and Julia Crane have in store for us in the future!

You may want to make sure you have a lover or some extra batteries for B.O.B. handy before you start this one, because some of these authors really know how to burn up the pages! It really does have something for everyone. There were some stories that I preferred more than others, but I think it's because of my personal reading preferences. The Rhyn Trilogy

The life of nineteen-year-old Katie rarely goes the way she wants. Just when she believes things can’t get much worse, a baby immortal claiming to be her son and death’s personal assistant appear on her doorstep. Everyone around her begins to insist she’s someone she’s not, while demons, deities and immortals threaten to tear her life – and sanity – apart. Scared but brave, she confronts this new world head on, where she meets Immortals like Gabriel, a death dealer, and Rhyn, an outcast half-demon who claims her as his mate in a show of defiance to his Immortal half-brothers. Determined to spite the siblings that sentenced him to Hell, Rhyn rescues Katie from the demons and discovers what everyone is after: his little human has a gift that will safeguard – or annihilate – the immortal and mortal worlds. His defiance melts into possessive protectiveness of the fiery yet vulnerable Katie as he realizes the sorry truth: he’s the only ally she’s got, and he won’t leave her high and dry the way his brothers did him. Despite all odds, the unlikely pair begins to trust one another. Katie becomes caught up in the messy, dark political manipulations of the supernatural. The Immortals have no intention of letting her go – alive, that is, and Rhyn can only protect her if he accepts his place among the people he despises, a challenge given his status as an outcast. Meanwhile, the demons pursuing Katie are closing in, the Immortals lying through their teeth and the deity Death playing a game no one can predict. To save one another, they face the ultimate choice: Death or Hell. Life or Love. Katie’s life … … or Rhyn’s. Includes all three books in the bestselling new adult paranormal romance series, “The Rhyn Trilogy,” and the short story "Rhyn Trilogy: Origins."

~ Review ~

Are you a magnet for losers? Do your dates always seem to end up being a disaster? Well then, you seem to have something in common with Jenna. Grab a glass of wine and settle in for a good laugh while you read through several unfortunate, yet memorable dates. I promise you that your dating life can't be nearly as bad as hers. This is now my go to book when I need a good chuckle.

I love the way the book is paced. You can read through one disaster after another. Most books don't leave room for a pause for real life occurrences. You can stop at the end of one catastrophe, take care of your kids, and get right back to the madness that is Jenna's dating life. There are also a few guest appearances by others with their courting failures. This is by far, one of the funniest books I've ever read! I am going to keep this book handy. Anytime I'm having a bad day or thinking that my husband is a imbecile, I can just read a passage and remember that he isn't so bad after all. I married one of the good guys. Poor Jenna, I hope she does end up with a good guy of her own. If she doesn't, I will certainly enjoy reading about other misadventures in the future.
